The beauty of this pattern is in the interaction of both the contrasting colors and qualities of the silk warp and the linen weft.  In addition, linen in the weft creates naturally slubby surface, enhancing texture. If you look carefully you will see subtle waves running up and down the fabric. These waves are created by using a courser then normal reed on the loom. It was imperative that the machine version be woven in the same manner, so we convinced the mill to replace their finer reeds and reproduce the canvas exactly.
